but it shouldn’t be used as a way for people to become socially lazy.
Whatever happened to a phone call or a freaking card? OR even a visit?
Today on facebook I saw that one of my “friends” (aka someone who I probably had at my 8-yr-old birthday party but haven’t talked to since HS 10 years ago) had went from married to single and had a few statuses written about her heartbreak and children and things. I was genuinely sad for her.
However. I scrolled down and someone had written “If you need me I’m here. If you want to talk e-mail me- I’m here.”
Wow. Thanks for the heartfelt help and the offer to respond to a freaking e-mail. An E-mail? Not even a phone call? Or a ‘lets go grab a cocktail’?
I know if that were my best friend, the only e-mailing I would be doing was a forward of my flight itinerary so she could pick me up at the airport. The only call would be “The plane just landed. See you after I grab my bags.”
Social media is great for many things…. consoling a friend going through a divorce however, is an epic social media fail.
